Our Mission

MI-SAFETY exists to give Michigan residents a voice in protecting their homes, families, and communities from energy projects that may pose safety concerns and legislative decisions that affect local communities.

Large infrastructure projects — including substations, battery storage facilities, and utility-scale solar farms — can significantly impact surrounding neighborhoods. Community members often express concerns about transparency, local input, and long-term effects. We believe decisions of this scale should prioritize open communication, careful review, and meaningful engagement with the people who will live with the outcome.

Michigan is Your Home.
We are Your Neighbors.
Together Our Voice is Loud.

At MI-SAFETY, we are not a political organization, and we do not take partisan sides. We are voters and your neighbors. People involved with MI-SAFETY come from across the political spectrum — as is true of any healthy civic effort in the United States. What unites us is not partisanship, but a shared commitment to the promise of the Declaration of Independence: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Our focus is on community safety, transparency, and informed decision-making — not party affiliation. We will always hold elected officials accountable when residents feel their concerns are not being addressed, and we will just as readily recognize leaders who stand up for the safety and rights of the people they represent, regardless of party.

Facts and History Should Inform Policy

Across the United States and around the world, there have been documented news reports of incidents involving fires, explosions, environmental impacts, and costly cleanups associated with certain large-scale energy and industrial projects. We highlight publicly available reporting and research so that residents can better understand potential risks and participate meaningfully in local decisions.

Our mission is to provide fact-based information, research, and resources so residents can understand the issues, speak up at meetings, and advocate for stronger local protections. We focus on practical concerns that matter: fire safety, environmental health, noise, zoning compatibility, taxpayer liability, and overall community well-being.

Fighting to Stop the Dust Bowl for Michigan

Our first major priority is Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), followed by utility-scale solar development. These projects have been expanding rapidly across Michigan, driven by new incentives and evolving regulatory frameworks. While energy storage can be a valuable technology, many communities are raising questions about whether current siting practices, safety standards, and oversight are keeping pace with the growth.

Residents have expressed concerns about fire risk, hazardous material releases, long-term site responsibility, and projects being located close to homes, farms, and schools. MI-SAFETY exists to ensure these concerns are taken seriously and addressed proactively.

Advocating for Safety and Transparency

We are not opposed to renewable energy or responsible innovation. What we advocate for are projects that are safe, transparent, and appropriately located — with meaningful community input and clear safeguards in place.

We support common-sense solutions such as industrial-only siting where appropriate, clear fire codes, escrow and decommissioning funds, noise protections, and stronger local involvement in decision-making.

When leadership doesn’t fully reflect community concerns, neighbors must stand together.

MI-SAFETY exists to help Michigan residents stay informed, connected, and empowered to use their voices — at the microphone, through the pen, and at the ballot box — to safeguard the places we call home.
